Run The Race

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off every thing that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”.    Hebrews 12:1

We’ve just seen the end of one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympic Games in history.  We have had great success in Olympic sports across the board from  dressage to taekwondo to rowing.

The success of competing in the highest level of sport is all in the preparation, from the physical stamina training, altitude training, vitamin supplements right to the food eaten before the race.

In reality, the race is won even before the competitors line up at the start line.

However, one main contributing factor on the day is mental preparedness.  The right mindset can be the difference between success and defeat.

In the same way, we need to be aware that we are running a race and need to be prepared spiritually and mentally.  We need to spend time each day in prayer and worship before God to ensure that we are spiritually fit.  We also need to feed on the Word of God and renew our minds with the word of faith in order to be able to face the challenges of the race.  Failure to prepare will mean that we are less able to cope with the demands of living a Christian life and we may end up being picked off by the enemy.

My challenge to you this week is to commit yourself to preparing for the spiritual race ahead.  Refresh yourself with God’s presence in worship, feed yourself on the Word of God and get ready to run the race empowered by the Holy Spirit.  “let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
