“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulders, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
“I can’t wait for Christmas” is the cry of many of our children in these last few days of term. The presents, the food, the presents (Did I already mention that?!)
It is hard to wait for something exciting whatever our age. The verse above is the promise of the Messiah, sounds amazing doesn’t it, but then comes the waiting!
“…you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger”
I have often struggled in the gap of waiting for breakthrough, but this is extreme! From the time of Isaiah’s prophecy to the time of Jesus’ birth was about 700 years! God makes a promise but doesn’t give a timeline. Sound familiar?
When we need a breakthrough, we need it straight away and we really struggle to be patient. We mistake “not yet” for “never.”
Whatever the breakthrough you are waiting for this Christmas, keep waiting, keep trusting God, keep believing, don’t let your heart grow sick in the waiting. In time that longing will be fulfilled if you hold on in faith.
Proverbs 13:12: “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”
