‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’ (Matthew 2:2)
This week saw the High Street bakers Greggs cause a stir with their advent calendar showing the Magi bowing down to a Greggs Sausage Roll instead of Jesus in a manger. Although intended as a bit of humour, they underestimated the strength of feeling and offense caused. After all, it’s pretty poor taste to switch the Saviour born into a Jewish culture for a cheap pork product! (sigh!)
At the other end of the spectrum was the $450 million paid for Leonardo da Vinci’s painting ‘Salvator Mundi’, making it the most expensive painting ever! Quite amazing that someone would pay such a huge amount for one painting, albeit one from the 1500s.
Both of these news stories appearing in the same week shows that despite the secularisation of our culture, the world is still fascinated in the concept of a Saviour.
Whether you’re more of a Greggs sausage roll person, or a lover of fine art, the reality of the Saviour is that the love of Jesus is not only priceless, but also free to all who call upon His name. The ‘Salvator Mundi’ is exactly that, the Saviour of the World who gave His life to save yours. Make a decision today to commit your future to His hands.
