“12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the LORD blessed him. 13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.” Genesis 26:12-13
One of the most wonderful things about an English Summer is the beautiful country gardens. Once upon a time, I thought that gardening was for old people! Now, I am very fond of admiring beautiful plants, and I’m not sure whether that’s because I have matured, or it’s because I’m getting older!
The bible speaks a lot about nature and the Psalms are full of nature’s beauty and how it inspires praises to God.
Since we moved to Millbrook, we have been trying to bring some order to the chaos our new garden. It is interesting that you have to be very purposeful about what you allow to grow, and what you deliberately plant, or sow as seeds. You must keep a vigilant eye out for weeds and remove them, otherwise they will choke the growth of the beautiful plants that you have intentionally planted.
It is exactly the same with our hearts and spiritual lives. We must be intentional about what we allow to grow there. We must tend the soil and ensure that it does not become hard or infertile. We must also keep our eye out for negative thoughts and temptations which may “self-seed” and spring up to choke out the Word and our Spiritual maturity.
My challenge to you this week is to commit yourself to preparing the spiritual ground of your heart for the seeds of the Word of God. Choose what you are going to plant by faith and believe for a harvest.
